The Role
Although I was quite nervous when I first started, I really enjoyed my 6 weeks with PwC and when it was over I genuinely didn't want to leave!
Everybody that I worked with was very friendly, and they gave me real work to do straight away. I was made to feel like I was important, and that the work I did had real value.
My supervisors and managers were excellent with giving me any support I needed. All the tasks that I needed to do were explained very well, and if I needed any additional support I felt comfortable just asking for help, everybody was always happy to help me!
I worked in Audit, so when I was out at client sites I always had plenty of work to keep me busy. I spent a couple of weeks in the office too, which was completely different. There were times that I was given work to do by people but there were other times when I didn't have a lot to do.
I was given responsibility for the work that I did, and I also had the opportunity to ask whenever I wanted to try something different, for example to shadow a Partner or a Senior Manager for a day.
I definitely developed the skills of working with people in a team in a work environment, which I will be able to take with me wherever I go after graduation. I also learned a lot about the job itself, which will be useful when attending interviews etc.
The Company
There were days when a lot of people were out of the office, when it felt a bit quiet. But on the whole, most days the atmosphere was very friendly and relaxed.
There were times when I didn't have any work to do, and nobody else had any work to give me, so there were boring days. But that comes with the nature of Audit work - summer is generally the quiet season so there often isn't much for people to do at that time of year.
I was given the opportunity to do different things such as partner shadowing, which was very interesting. Also, the first week was a residential training week, which was in a lovely country house and was an amazing experience. They gave us a lot of job-specific training during that week, and you could tell that they really were investing in everybody there.
I got an offer to return to PwC next year!
The Culture
There was a great social scene between the other interns, and also I could tell that the PwC employees got on well outside work too.
I stayed at home during the placement so I didn't have any additional expenses.
I lived at home in Leicester, so the nightlife was nothing new to me!
There was a 'social day' for my department but unfortunately it was on the week after my placement ended, so I didn't get to go.
