The Role
If you enjoy a challenge then you will love a placement at MS. The working environment is also great, it's very relaxed and informal, you will be working with some of the brightest minds in CS
From day 1 I felt valued by my colleages. This was helped by the fact that the systems I was working on would make their working life more productive, so they were always glad to have me there and help me in the projects.
My manager met with me weekly to discuss my performance, and gave me tips to improve my development. He was also always available to ask any questions that I had about my projects.
I had a lot of work to do, but there were only a few points on the placement where I felt I was too busy. Pretty good balance, as I was never bored, but never too stressed.
I was working on new systems that many users depended on that ultimately entered production. I was also required to respond to production outages etc.
The initial training is great if you are looking to work in the finance sector. Most of the technology training was on the job, but you are faced with some complex problems, and your team will help you work through them.
The Company
There are a lot of (free) social events, and everyone likes to keep a good work-life balance.
Couldn't get much more organised, the feedback application process was very quick, and I knew months before my placement what team I would be working in, and what projects I would be working on
Most of the technology training is on the job, but your team will expect provide you with a lot of support and training whilst you're there
Flexi Time

Working from home
I got strong feedback from my manager, and have had an interview for a graduate job. Just got to wait and see!
The Culture
There are a lot of interns (20 this year in technology alone) who are all up for a good laugh
It's london, so it's not cheap. The area I was living in wasn't too bad though (and wasn't too far away from work)
Canary wharf has a lot of good pubs and bars, but not really any clubs
There were loads of events, usually at least 1 a week
