The Role
I had such a great time! Everyone was so nice and it gave me such an insight into what a career as an actuary could be like - I really enjoyed my time with PwC.
I was given real client work to do so felt like I was really making a contribution to the team. They were all really welcoming too and invited me to socialise out with work too.
I was given both a buddy and a People Manager who each helped me throughout my internship. And people always had time to sit down and explain something or even just chat about their careers or what they were working on. I was never afraid to ask questions which helped me learn a lot.
Most of the time I was fairly busy. I had my own work to do an was often contributing to larger pieces of client work. There were occasions where I didn't have as much to do but we had a group project to work on too so that helped fill up any time I had spare.
I was really surprised by the amount of responsibility I was given from day one - I already had my own work to complete, and this was fantastic.
My excel skills have definitely improved and the knowledge I received around pensions has helped me in returning to uni. Everything I learnt I'll be able to take back with my into my graduate role.
The Company
The office was a lot more relaxed than I had expected - people were quite chatty (dependent on the amount of work they had) and very friendly. And having casual Friday is always nice.
It was set up extremely well. Before starting I was given all the information I needed and I was almost always kept busy. There were regular internship specific events too which was great.
I feel they invest a lot into their interns - both in terms of time and money. They gave us the opportunity to develop various skills including presentation and negotiation in specific development events. And we were given 5 days of training/induction at the beginning.

Fantastic! At the end of the internship I was offered a graduate role commencing the following year. Given how much I enjoyed my internship I'm really looking forward to starting my career.
The Culture
The social scene was really good. There was a team social committee and I was invited to a few team socials, eg wine tasting. Among the interns there was also a good social scene and we would regularly meet up or attend events organised by PwC. The induction training was also a great opportunity to socialise with all of the UK interns.
I thought it was fine. I already had a student flat here and having studied here for 3 years already I knew what to expect. It all depends on where you go.
Edinburgh is great for a night out - I love it!
There were a variety of clubs to get involved with I did not really get involved in that side of things though.
