    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I had a really good time on my placement, although I would say that I did not always fully understand what was expected of me. My advice would be to constantly be asking questions of those around you to make sure that you are fully aware of what they are looking for at all times, don't be scared!

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • The people I worked with were lovely and very accommodating of the fact I had NO prior experience of the type of work I was doing (audit in financial services),

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • At times there was a certain amount of miscommunication within the department which was often to my detriment, however if I ever had a question on the task I was working on people were always happy to help where they could.

    3/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Very seldomly I finished tasks and felt I had to wait with nothing to do before I was designated my next task although it did happen on occasion. Other than that, my days were very full.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given quite a lot of responsibility, especially when taken out to clients. I was proud to be given the opportunity of representing KPMG and that they gave me that kind of position. The work I was given was more complex than I had anticipated which was a benefit for me as I felt trusted to complete the work.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The combination of the experience of working in a business environment, working towards deadlines, receiving and utilising feedback and learning from mistakes are invaluable lessons thA I can take on with me in the rest of my working life. I couldn't recommend an experience like this more strongly.

    5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • It is important to remember that you are only there for a short time and the other people in the office rely on this job as their full time occupation. So although the people around me were great fun, they were mostly in "work mode", as you would expect.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Occasionally I would find myself looking for work but only very occasionally and would usually find some quite quickly.

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I did receive feedback, although I would criticise the timing of it which was in the second sat week of my 8 week placement so time for improvement was somewhat limited. If this feedback came earlier in the process, there would be more time to address any issues that were there.

    3/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Subsidised Canteen

    Company Parties/Events

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • KPMG are a great company to work for and the people are fanatic to work with.

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Due to the training day we had before we started, I met the other students from my area that would be working in the same office so we all socialised together. We also had an audit BBQ which was lovely.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • I live in Glasgow as a student anyway so I am used to the costs of socialising and lived in my term time address so there was not much of a difference for me in terms of living costs.

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Glasgow nightlife is great!

    5/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There was a hockey team which I could of joined.
