The Role
I really enjoyed my time spent at Morgan Stanley; I worked independently on a project and also carried out day to day tasks within my team. The people I worked with were really helpful and I found it easy to integrate myself into the team.
My colleagues were very welcoming and couldn't help me enough. I got on really well both with those within my team and those in other teams. My colleagues were like minded and it was great to work with people who are experts in their field.
Nothing was too much trouble for my manager or for others on my team. They were more than willing to help when I encountered any problems, and they were as keen as I was to ensure that my work was completed to the highest possible standard.
When I was completing my independently managed project, I was able to make myself as busy or as not busy as I liked. I knew that the project had to be finished by the end of my ten week internship, and so I managed my time effectively in order to achieve this goal. The day to day tasks ensured that I always had enough to do.
The project that I completed was very important to close an operational gap, and so I was given quite a lot of responsibility as it was important that the work was completed correctly.
I learned how to manage my time effectively and also developed communication skills through working with colleagues on all levels. The organisation and time management skills that I developed have helped me greatly when studying in the final year of my degree.
The Company
My colleagues were very hard working but also kept the balance within the office - the atmosphere was great and we were always able to have a good laugh.
I was given a diverse range of tasks by my team which suggested that they had given considerable thought to my work before I arrived. Furthermore, many events were organised by HR which provided a great oversight of the firm as a whole.
Many events were organised during the internship which were designed to improve the firm-wide and market knowledge of interns. In this respect, I feel like MS invested greatly in my training and development.

I was offered a graduate role in Operations two weeks after finishing my summer internship.
The Culture
I regularly met with other interns/industrial placement students outside of the workplace. We often went for drinks after work on Friday evenings and also attended events together than Morgan Stanley had organised.
I found the area where I worked (Canary Wharf) to be quite expensive; a large glass of wine cost around £6 and a decent meal after work cost around £15.
Mostly bars and restaurants filled with city workers - a great atmosphere Monday through to Friday.
Both offices of Morgan Stanley had gyms which many interns were members of, and that was a good place to socialise and take a break from the office. Morgan Stanley organised several after work events which were also great fun.
