    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • Really enjoyed the overall experience. From the work I was doing, to the people I met throughout the company, I always felt valued and had fun doing it.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Everyone was really welcoming and ready to help me. There are lots of young people in the company who graduated fairly recently themselves so you have plenty in common with them. Was invited out on socials and made to feel like a part of the company

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Worked out at clients in small teams and there was always someone willing to answer your questions and teach you about anything you don't understand. Was encouraged to ask questions and be curious.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Very rarely was I left with nothing to do. Spent most of my time working out at clients, being given a new task every time I finished.

    5/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • Treated like a trainee would be. All of my work was relevant on each audit and was given more complicated tasks as I went along. Had the chance to speak with the financial director of a company within my first two weeks as well.

    5/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Had some excellent opportunities to learn new skills. Was taken onto a great presentation skills course and was able to put what I learned into practice by giving a presentation to senior managers at the end of my internship. This will help me going into my final year of uni where some courses involve presenting. Also had the opportunity to shadow one of the partners for a day, which proved an invaluable experience and I learned so much.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • As an audit intern most of my time was spent away from the office, however whenever I was in there was always a good atmosphere.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The internship was really well organised. I had a timetable of which clients I would be working at, and there were organised activities such as the corporate responsibility day, the partner shadowing day, and the presentation skills course.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The fact that the company was willing to send us down to the training centre at Bradenham for a presentation skills course made it feel like they really were interested in our personal development.

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Sports and Social Club

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • The majority of interns were offered jobs at the end of the internship. I was also able to become a campus ambassador for Grant Thornton at my university in my final year, assisting with the graduate recruitment branding and marketing side of things. This gives me a great chance to keep in touch with the company and also earn some more money!

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Got on really well with the other interns and went out for a few nights out. We also entered an intern team in the national summer football tournament and played against teams from offices all over the country, with a social afterwards.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • 4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • 5/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Was given the chance to get involved in fundraising for a corporate responsibility day that Interns from all over the country attended. The day involved going to an underprivileged primary school and renovating the playground. Also had the chance to enter an intern team into the national summer football tournament and played against teams from offices around the country.
