The Role
I enjoyed the fact that we were given a project which would be of real use to the company and not just admin roles. The atmosphere was fantastic amongst the interns which made the summer more enjoyable and as a result it definitelty didn't feel like a boring day job.
I didn't feel like I was treated any differently from any one else who worked in the office. Every one was very interested in what i was doing and happy to answer any questions or offer help where it was needed.
I felt like I was given enough support from my manager, but i would of preferred to have a little more contact. The project I was given was very much an independent thing where it was my choice what to do and how i was going to go about presenting it, but when i asked for help or feedback i did get it.
The start of the internship was very slow, it took a while to get into what i was actually doing as people were away who needed to guide me in the right direction, so at first I was just reading manuals on the basics. However, once i got going on my project i was very busy and have needed to stay late at work to get things done, which sounds bad, but i would prefer to to busy as the days go a lot quicker and are more enjoyable.
I wasn't given a huge amount of responsibility as my project was very much an independent piece of work. However there was the chance to get involved in activities outside of our projects, and i took up the chance which gave me more responsibilities.
Whilst at BP i was given fantastic opportunities to develop a range of skills from Excel to presentation training which will all be useful when continuing with my degree. I have become competent at excel and improved my confidence in presenting, as well as strengthened my time management skills and experienced what it is like to work in a professional environment.
The Company
Atmosphere was great, every one was very friendly and as a result it was quite laid back.
Internship structure was well organised, once arriving in the office on my first day i was told what my project was and there were mid-internship meetings etc to keep a track of progress.
Invested a lot in terms of time and money, with a lot of training and lunch and learns available to all who wanted to attend.

Fantastic prospects; at the end of the internship we have the chance to gain a graduate jobs through bypassing most of the stages and going straight into the final assessment centre where their aim is to give 90% of interns the job.
The Culture
All the interns in Aberdeen lived in halls about a 10 minute walk from the city centre, so it meant that there was a great social life with every body keen to do things at the weekend.
We were in student halls for the Summer which wasn't hugely expensive as we were being paid. As a city Aberdeen is very cheap, going out is very cheap with entry into most clubs free and single mixers as cheap as 70p. Most other activities are normal city prices- far cheaper than London.
Great nightlife, all the interns were up for going out at the weekend and Aberdeen is a really cheap night out.
There were chances to get involved in charity work, sports, meals out.
