The Role
It was a challenging project that developed my knowledge and allowed me to contribute to the company's knowledge base.
Most of my work was individual however, my coleagues were very accommodating when support was required and were always keen to have lunch together.
Whenever required support was available. The trick is to make the most use of it.
There were only a few days a couple of weeks in that went slowly - all others were thoroughly enjoyable with plenty to do. Occassionally I did some extra work at home but that was not a necessity.
I was allowed to be the lead on a new software package that the team was investigating. This meant interacting with the service company directly without supervision.
Set to do an MSc in the field of my placement and I have no doubt it will help me in that degree. Further to that, the business skills developed will obviously be beneficial.
The Company
It was always laid back and pleasant: never a party but always somewhere I was happy to go into early in the morning.
Very few glitches and any encountered couldn't have been forseen.
I had three days one-on-one software training in a brand new software from an outside contractor. Also, had presentation training which was beneficial.
Flexi Time
Subsidised Canteen
Sports and Social Club
Subsidised/Company Gym
Company Parties/Events
I will be told in the next fortnight if I have a job with them however, I had a very positive appraisal from my line manager.
The Culture
Made quite a few friends however, this side of things was left for interns to organise themselves. Led to one or two quiet evenings but I was living with two fellow interns by the end!
London is expensive for rent and beer money however, a subsidised pub across the road from the office helped on work occasions. Any expense was worth it though as living in London turned out to be great after initial reservations.
There isn't one near the office but then there is central London only 40 minutes away and I lived fairly centrally. Had a couple of great nights but wasn't the wildest all the time.
Played football weekly from week one and had a sports day instead of work one friday afternoon.
