    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • It was a challenging project that developed my knowledge and allowed me to contribute to the company's knowledge base.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Most of my work was individual however, my coleagues were very accommodating when support was required and were always keen to have lunch together.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Whenever required support was available. The trick is to make the most use of it.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • There were only a few days a couple of weeks in that went slowly - all others were thoroughly enjoyable with plenty to do. Occassionally I did some extra work at home but that was not a necessity.

    5/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was allowed to be the lead on a new software package that the team was investigating. This meant interacting with the service company directly without supervision.

    5/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Set to do an MSc in the field of my placement and I have no doubt it will help me in that degree. Further to that, the business skills developed will obviously be beneficial.

    5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • It was always laid back and pleasant: never a party but always somewhere I was happy to go into early in the morning.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Very few glitches and any encountered couldn't have been forseen.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I had three days one-on-one software training in a brand new software from an outside contractor. Also, had presentation training which was beneficial.

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    Subsidised Canteen

    Sports and Social Club

    Subsidised/Company Gym

    Company Parties/Events

    5/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I will be told in the next fortnight if I have a job with them however, I had a very positive appraisal from my line manager.

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Made quite a few friends however, this side of things was left for interns to organise themselves. Led to one or two quiet evenings but I was living with two fellow interns by the end!

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • London is expensive for rent and beer money however, a subsidised pub across the road from the office helped on work occasions. Any expense was worth it though as living in London turned out to be great after initial reservations.

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • There isn't one near the office but then there is central London only 40 minutes away and I lived fairly centrally. Had a couple of great nights but wasn't the wildest all the time.

    3/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Played football weekly from week one and had a sports day instead of work one friday afternoon.

    5/5
