The Role
The internship is a very well structured way to spend the summer before your final year of university. I was exposed to different areas of the industry and was able to spend the majority of my time on the desk where I expressed the most interest. Altogether this was a very rewarding experience and most importantly allowed me to learn a great deal, not only technically but also about corporate life and behaviour in general.
As an intern it is very hard to feel as though you are adding 'value' to the work of your team in the greater scheme of things; however, my team was very supportive and patient in encouraging me with the completion of my tasks.
Throughout my internship I was very appreciative of very constructive support and feedback for the direction of my personal development.
Generally I had a well-balanced workload that kept my busy, although this inevitably varies day to day. Some days I was dealing with more time-pressured tasks, and on slower days it became more necessary to pursue my own tasks and learning.
I was not given much responsibility relative to the overall working of my team, although I was given a lot of independence for my own personal projects.
I feel as though this summer has been a great learning experience that will undoubtedly be of use not only academically but in my general involvement in professional life after graduation.
The Company
The nature of the office was very dynamic and quite high pressured, which makes for an exciting environment.
The organisation of this internship was exceptional, and the dedication to ensuring a smoothly run experience was extremely impressive.
Again, the internship excelled in this area and was very responsive to personal development needs and preferences. An example of this was the structured training course we received during our first week.
Company Parties/Events
This is yet to be determined but there are reasonable prospects within the intern class as a whole.
The Culture
There was a good social scene amongst the intern class which was further facilitated by company-organised social events such as a bowling event in Brick Lane.
Situated in London, all costs of living are bound to be expensive, including rent, food and especially travel to and from the office.
A definite perk of being in London is the nightlife and huge variety of events on offer in the city.
Relative to the length of this internship (ten weeks) we were given an impressive array of activities to be involved in outside of work revolving around charity work for the Great Ormond Street Hospital. This included building an adventure playground in Islington and designing our own charity events in teams.
