    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • Overall the experience was great. The internship involved two rotations on different desks and on one of the desks I was placed they had very little work for me to do which complicated things however they were supportive in allowing me to go and complete work for other areas

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Everyone I met from the business was lovely and more than willing to give up their time to help me with my work, not just analysts but VP's and MD's as well

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Overall support was fantastic due to the Mentor/Dean and Buddy system in place. My Buddy helped support me and checked everyday things were alright where as my mentor and Dean looked at the bigger picture and helped aggregate feedback

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • It varied hugely between desks and work. On some days I worked 6AM-10PM and there was not enough time in the day, on others I worked far shorter hours and had very little to do but overall the balance was okay.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • Some of the models I built were to be used for actual trades or investment ideas which made the whole thing a bit more worthwhile, again this varied between desks and projects.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I learnt an incredible amount on the internship. Hard skills such as technical knowledge about finance as well as soft skills like time management and presenting. I went in thinking I knew a lot and found I actually knew nothing.

    5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • It varied heavily again between which desk you were on and what market conditions were like. Some desks were more lively than others but in general there was a good mix.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • HR ran the whole thing very smoothly and effectively from the extra events to reviews and additional proceeses it ran like clockwork and they cant be faulted

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • We had thorough training from week one and continued lectures throughout. The support overall was great.

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Subsidised Canteen

    Subsidised/Company Gym

    0/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Although I'd very much like a job with Morgan Stanley it was rumoured headcount this year will be perhaps as low as 15 or 20 from a class of 80+ interns so it's unlikely.

    2/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • I made some great friends whilst on the internship and the interns went out regularly and had a lot of fun.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Central London is not a cheap place but thats no mystery.

    1/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Although Canary wharf has very little if any nightlife its probably fairer to discuss London as a whole which of course has some of the best nightlife in the world.

    5/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • I was involved in a charity run, 5-a-side football and lots of other activities.

    5/5
