The Role
As expected I was a bit awkward and unsure at first, but once you got a handle on what exactly it was you were supposed to be doing and what you have to do to achieve that it's like you've been there for ages. And this didn't take long to achieve as everyone's incredibly friendly and eager to help.
Made to feel like a regular member of the team at an early stage. Encouraged to participate in team meetings and out of work events
Never felt I was being a nuisance when I asked questions/ asked for a meeting to discuss my project. Was given plenty of encouragement to make the most of my internship by talking to others about the different disciplines they're involved with. Would have liked a bit more instruction as to exactly what i was supposed to be doing at the beginning. but not having this did encourage me to be more proactive in looking for things to do and asking other people what to do etc.
Varied quite a lot but mainly due to the nature of the job rather than organisation of the intership.
I was given my own part of a project to deliver that whilst I received help working on, was still my responsibility to make sure it gone done well
Helped me to develop my confidence, organisation and technical knowledge of the oil industry massively. All of which I feel are applicable to my degree and most definitely helpful in any future job or job interview I may have.
The Company
Friendly, respectful, helpful. There was the opportunity to have a bit of a chat and a break on occasion but these were never long and weren't felt to be intruding on others trying to work
all went very smoothly apart from the accommodation which we had to move out of before our placement finished, but I'm not sure how BP could have resolved this
As far as i'm aware all opportunities were open to us. We could apply to attend as many lunch and learns and training sessions as we wanted to and the attitude that the company has towards mentoring those new to the company is excellent.
Flexi Time
Subsidised Canteen
Company Parties/Events
Very much hope to receive a job offer from them. Have found the work environment and atmosphere great and the work interesting. All employees seemed to be treated very well.
The Culture
There was always the opportunity to do something with someone if you had nothing to do and there was a good sense of community between interns
the accommodation was a bit on the steep side but considering the excellent location, can't really complain. General socialising costs were in general very cheap.
cheap and cheerful. All you need when you've got a big group that gels well
gym, walking, climbing, go karting there was always plenty available and plenty of people keen to have a go
