The Role
BP were very proactive, making sure we had plenty of opportunities to meet management, understand various job roles including lunch and learn talks, social events and drinks.
I have been welcomed into my team and valued as a colleague, being included in team meetings and lunches and even cake baking!
My project gave me alot of data I had not used before and my supervisor and team were invaluable in making sure I could manage and understand this effectively
Geoscience Interns were very busy with on average 1 major project that needed to be completed in the 11 weeks, because the project was big I had to make a number of decisions about what to include in my project that would add value.
I was incharge of my own project so had to manage my time and priorities accordingly
I learn't alot about the roles of other employees and how they all contribute to the reservoir model, this expanded and developed my understanding of the oil industry beyond what I was taught in Uni and gave me an advantage in understanding my further studies.
The Company
Times of quiet working with breaks for coffee and chats. Everyone was very friendly and sociable
Very well managed and organised with lots of interaction and events organised by management and interns themselves
I was given training on the computer packages that i hadn't used before, and on presentation skills, as well as learning to manage and use a variety of data sources
Flexi Time
Subsidised Canteen
Company Parties/Events
Above 25 days holiday
It is a fantastic company and I would feel proud to work for them
The Culture
We did lots of activities including hill walking, bowling, cycling, rock climbing, sailing, rowing and of course socialising
very cost effective and salaries were very good
Lots of bars, pubs and clubs to choose from and active bus routes and easy walks home
BP organise all kinds of activities from sports days to charity events which anyone can get involved in
