The Role
It was very enjoyable, not quite the job I want to be doing upon graduation, but still very worthwhile. I had a variaty of work - research, analysis, decision making and meetings/presentations. Many opportunities to take part in things outside of your day-job, for example organising intern events/trips.
The work I am doing wazs a real commercial project and I was included in all team meetings/activities and my contributions. My colleagues were always interested to recieve updates about my work and were all very quick to provide assistence/feedback when required
All support and guidance required was provided, either by my direct supervisor or somebody better lace with specirfic skills. I was encourged not to immediately ask for help and try to research my own solutions.
I was very busy, but that suited me. I was involved in lots of extra work/activities, so if you wanted less work and just work the minimum you could... but that probably won't get you a graduate job!
I was working on real projects, with potentially large business impact. For example I presented my project to an external partner. At BP all interns are left in complete control of their placement project and have to thus lead and manage it.
The skills I have gained in finance will definately benefit me in the future, i have really improved my knowledge of project economics and accountancy. I have also made many new friends and networks and continued to develop my professional attitude to work.
The Company
My office was quite quiet, but everyone was very socialable. Having such a large group of interns there was always somebody to go for lunch with.
The graudate recruitment team did an amazing job organising the placement. They are very helpful if you have problems/concerns and everything went very smoothly upon arrival and throughout, payroll went through perfectly - which is vary rare for a placement. Cannot rate the set up more highly.
We were given tons of training opportunities, not just in the areas directly covered by your placement. Fellow interns for example undertook offshore training or negotiation training if required. We were encourgaed to maximise the training and learning we got out of the placement.

Very appealing, amongst the highest salary and a diverse graduate recruitment scheme. Internships are definately the best way to get the jobs since offers are decided before recruitment opens.
The Culture
Really great- since most of us were living together there was always something going on. Went on trips away at the weekends - we got every other friday off. The intern group were generally all very friendly and down-to-earth.
Great value if you find the right places but also very expensive if you don't...
The nightlife is pretty good. Its not London but there is enough to keep me occupied!
Lots of opportunities - but you have to be prepared to help organise them... the Cairngorms are only 1-2 hrs away, so ideal if you love outdoor activities.
