The Role
Really interesting and keen to involve me in the company
My project was quite standalone, so work with my team was limited. However, they were very welcoming and pleased to have me
I was given a line manager who supported me and never made me feel as though I was in the way.
As an average across the entire internship - there are busier/less busy periods
As much as can be given an intern: my project was my own but only the result of my project would determine if it would be of further interest to the company
A lot of practical application of my degree and academic learning
The Company
Quite casual and easygoing. A lot of joking and congeniality.
A very well organised program, with almost every aspect organised and working well.
I had a presentation training session, which was really helpful.
Flexi Time
Subsidised Canteen
Sports and Social Club
Subsidised/Company Gym
Company Parties/Events
Apparently more than half the interns get taken on, and the consideration for a graduate position is built into the placement - it is part of the assessment.
The Culture
I lived with a lot of other interns (organised by the company) so they were my main social group all summer. There were intern socials most weeks (we had a social sec) and the company even put on BBQs sometimes.
I didn't live in the area I worked - perhaps the hour and a half commute is a minus.
Never went out in the area I worked in, but I'd say pretty bad from what I've heard!
I went dragon boating, my friend played for the tennis club, there's a cycling club, a running club... Interns don't do these things so much because we're only here for a short time, but we are always invited.
