The Role
I had the best summer working with Lombard (part of the RBS Group). I was challenged, learnt lots of new things and meet some motivational people.
I was really made to feel part of the team. I was invited to team meetings, events and nights out.
The support was their if I needed it, including regular reviews with fomral feedback and just quick questions here and there. Although, I also worked independently and often my managers were very busy and were out of the office.
For most of my time at Lombard I was very busy - this was largely because I had my own project to be getting on with. When the project was finished I felt a little bored and could have had more work to do.
I felt that my line-mangers and the team put a lot of trust in me. I was given responsibilities that I would never of been expected to get, including the ability to go out on very large deals.
I learnt detailed analytical skills which will assist me back at university as most of my studies require such analysis.
The Company
The office was quite quiet most of the day and this was largely due to the Relationship Managers working out of different offices and being out on customer appointments. Our support teams are based else where so I was often alone. However, this meant that I could be very focused on my work.
The HR team were very organised, my first week with the company was an induction week where everything was organised brilliantly. The structure of reviews and feedback was very good. However, I was still given a large amount of independence over my own work, thus having to set my own deadlines and structure.
I was only with the RBS group for 10 weeks however still received 3 full days of training by the 7City group. In addition, the people in the organisation spent a lot of time showing me new systems and procedures. If I were accepted onto the Graduate Scheme then the company offers you other qualifications and additional training.

Company Parties/Events
Throughout the intership you have to do a project and then are assessed on this project at the end of your time with the company, this decides alongside your day-to-day work if you will be offered the job onto the Graduate programme starting in Sept 2013.
The Culture
We did not go out very often but when we did it was a really good night.
Reading is quite expensive but I was used to this as I have lived in the area all my life.
Reading has lots of clubs, bars and restaurants so there's something for everyone to do.
There were some opportunities with the graduate scheme and the other interns.
