    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I have really enjoyed my summer internship this year. I have made some great friends, developed as an engineer and now know clearly the market in which I want to forge my career. BP treat their employees with respect and really look after their well being. I feel I had a lot of support and have been involved with some really interesting projects.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My manager was fantastic. He made sure that I was on track with my work and made sure that I always had enough work. He has been there for me 100% of the way.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • If I wasn't completign project work, I would be allowed to attend company events such as lunch and learns which enhanced my learning experience. I always was given more work when I was running low so that I didnt get bored, however I never felt overwhelmed by the amount of work that I was given.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given quite a lot of responsibility during my placement. I was involved in real projects that affected the company and their activities and I felt as if I was making a difference to BP whilst I was there.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I will use all of the skills and the knowledge I have gained in my future career and some in my degree because I have now decided that i want to forge a career in oil and gas as a result of this internship. I have developed my project management skills, communication skills and teamwork skills as well as been exposed to real life situations that I wasn't exposed to at university.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The offices at BP are very relaxed and calm. The company encourages being socialable and getting along with your co workers. Many workers will have meetings over a star bucks which makes meetings less scary and more informal.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • I experienced no problems with my internship. The company helped to find me accomodation and the contracts were sent through very quickly. I met my team within the first 2 days and all my training was in place.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • The social scene amongst the interns was brilliant. We went out every weekend and had fun. We did activites such as clubbing, bowling, hill walking, visited a music festival, went to Aberdeen Pleasure Park, visited Edinburgh and Inverness and many other activities too.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Aberdeen isn't the cheapest area to live because there are so many oil and gas employees whom earn very good money and therefore the area reflects this, however I didnt find all clubs were over priced as there are 2 universities in Aberdeen and therefore the social activites do reflect a students income.

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • I really enjoyed the nightlife in Aberdeen, I felt there was enough to do and enough places to go out. There was something for everybody.

    5/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There were quite a few opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work. BP does a ticket raffle for events which you can apply for and then you can go to the events. There were also sports teams to join and their were numerous work and team meals.
