The Role
I really enjoyed my internship. I met a lot of people from a number of different disciplines and made a lot of new friends. I also developed as a professional and the internship helped me to decide which career path I wanted to go down.
I got on really well with my colleagues. I attended daily meetings with them and we had a few social nights out which was brilliant. They would regularly ask me for help with some of their projects and I had to feed information back to them regularly. If i ever needed assistance I felt confident to ask them for help.
My manager was fantastic, he would always check how I was on a daily basis and give me tasks to complete that he felt were suitable for my learning of the business. He also set up weekly meetings with me to check that I was getting on okay. On top of this he made sure that I made the most of my internship.
I had a good project that was very interesting and engaging however I do feel at times I could have used for work and been a bit busier, however the spare time I did have I used for lunch and learns and to learn about other areas of the business.
I was given enough responsbility so that I could do my own work and make my own decisions but I wasn't left to feel uncomfortable or over my head with work.
Although the skills I learnt probably wont help my degree this year, they certainly are skills that I can use in my professional life. Skills such as time keeping, team work, communication and project planning were all skills I learnt and developed. I also developed a better understanding of choosing components for real life applications.
The Company
The office environment that BP had created is fantastic. It is a really relaxed office which is open plan and allows employees to find and talk to one another easily. They also have great lunch and coffee facilities and they promote informal meetings to encourage staff bonding.
I didnt experience any problems with my internship. The contracts came quite quickly after I had been told I had the job and accomodation reccomendations were emailed to us as well.
The company spent a lot of time , resource and money to ensure that I had a fantastic learning opportunity and that I felt comfortable at work.

The Culture
We went out every weekend and visited many different cities whilst we were there. I use to also play football with some of the placement students on a monday and have a pint in the local pub after which was brilliant.
It wasn't too expensive it was really typically city prices. I paid no more for my accomodation than I pay at university.
They were a good choice of restaurants, pubs and comedy nights to go to. We also tested out many of the local clubs and went to the cinema a few times.
There were a number of football teams that I could get involved with and myself and the other interns kept in touch over email so that we could plan our social events.
