    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • The work was interesting and completely new to me, having only recently finished my A-levels. I enjoyed the challenge of learning new things and being exposed to clients.

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Colleagues included me in as much as they could. I had the opportunity to be involved in many different projects and was also given a lot of responsibility - I felt I was trusted to deliver quality work.

    4/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • All staff of all grades were approachable and willing to help with any struggles I faced.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • There were occasions, particularly during the start of my placement, where I had a lot of free time. This was good however as it allowed me to become comfortable with finding work myself by asking my colleagues if I could help. As my department moved into their busy season (towards the end of my placement) I was given a lot of responsibility and work to do.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • (See previous comment)

    3/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Learnt a lot about general accountancy principals and about the operation of a range of organisations and companies, that will be useful for a range of career paths. The office and general life experience gained from the placement will also help with the future.

    5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • I enjoyed my time at the company and developed good relationships with colleagues, however I was working in a very professional environment and often with clients.

    3/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The placement was fairly organised. However, most of my experiences were organised by myself and there was no prescribed structure for the programme. This wasn't a bad thing, as it allowed me to organise parts of the placement myself - I became more independent as a result and was able to get involved with areas of the company that I wanted.

    3/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • It would have been useful if part of the placement was based in a college, where we could study the theory behind the work.

    3/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Subsidised Canteen

    Company Parties/Events

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • 4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • There were some work social events, however more would have made the experience more enjoyable.

    3/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Fairly expensive considering the fairly low salary.

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Manchester city centre.

    5/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Would have preferred more. Looking back, there were opportunities where I could have organised these myself. If I were to repeat the experience, I would try to create organise activities myself.

    3/5
