Overview
Assisting the teacher in class, conducting speaking tests, taking small groups for speaking activities, marking tests, photocopying and prep.
Skills
I learned lots about classroom management and effective teaching styles. I gained a better understanding of how to make sure the learning is effective and useful and how to relate to the learners.
Responsibilities
Day to day I didn’t have a huge amount of pressure but I was responsible for planning my own activities and did cover a couple of days on my own. The responsibility was manageable and helped me develop without too much stress
Support & Guidance
My mentor teacher was very supportive, he provided me resources and guided me as to which activities would work best. I didn’t receive much from the British Council.
Culture
It was somewhat difficult to ge to know people as they spoke Euskera in school and I only speak Spanish and English. They were friendly and I felt included in events and staff outings but it was overall a little difficult.
Your Impressions
I loved it so much! It was an incredible experience that I would definitely do again. It has made me more sure of what I want to do with my career and given me the relevant experience so I can pursue my intentions.
Yes
Don’t worry too much about choosing the place you’ll go as I selected any for each category and ended up in a beautiful place, working at a lovely school.
