Overview
I worked on both real and mock projects. Each day I would work on my given task and have regular calls with the engineer in charge of the project in order to monitor progress and ask questions.
Skills
Yes I have learnt multiple new skills in terms of using software. I have learnt how to use completely new programs and have developed my knowledge and understanding of ones I have used before. Additionally, I have learnt about bridge design and how these may be constructed. This is something I had little knowledge about prior to starting my placement.
Responsibilities
I think I was given a reasonable amount of responsibility, especially towards the end of my placement.
Support & Guidance
I received a great amount of support and guidance as all tasks were explained clearly and help was always given whenever I had questions or didn't understand something fully.
Culture
Think the generally atmosphere of the company was really good as everyone in the team was very welcoming and helpful. Great office environment.
Your Impressions
Overall, really enjoyed my placement as I learnt a lot about engineering, as well as what it will be like to work in the industry.
Yes
To look into the company and learn about what they do and their values etc. I would go into the office as much as you can as it's great to talk to other people in your team face to face and also other interns.
