  • Technical Skills - analytical skills, information management, SEEQ, UniSim modelling, Fluid Characterization with unique tools. Soft Skills - time management, organization, prioritization, communication, articulating concepts in a simple way and teaching, knowing when to seek support.     Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • Given the responsibility to take full lead on my own project, but had the full support of my managers and team. A plethora of opportunities were available, but it was up to me to make the most of them, no-one would force me.

  • The support system was great at all levels within the organization. Support was available from anyone I reached out too, even if they were in other teams and didn't know who I was.

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • A great culture, couldn't fault it. A strong learning culture, people are encouraged to share ideas and knowledge, allowing for individuals to learn from one another. Even as an intern, I was given the opportunity to teach and share new technical skills I had developed with the wider team who were unfamiliar with the tool.

    Your Impressions

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • I enjoyed my internship a huge amount. There were of course challenges, but this is what I seeked for in an internship and I do believe I have come out stronger. That said, my team and managers were available to provide support at all times whenever I asked for it.

  • 8. What advice would you give to others applying to Shell
  • Shell are hiring you as a person and not as a machine, and so the soft skills and behavioral traits are equally important (if not more) than the technical side of things. You ability to connect with different people and show respect goes a long way.
