Overview
The role involved communicating with universities across the country to collect data regarding LGBTQIA+ students and staff, collating this data, creating dashboards, investigating this data and how it compared to our university's data and then presenting findings to colleagues. This involved reaching out to various departments and attending team meetings.
Skills
I definitely feel I have massively expanded upon my professional communication skills. Communicating with other universities regarding sensitive data, collaborating and coordinating with other departments and working with my colleagues to improve our understanding together was a challenge that had taught me a lot about working in a large organisation.
Business Insight
Excellent. The team really took the time to explain to me their individual roles and I was able to network with colleagues across the university and have gained a much greater appreciation for the roles available within higher education and the way in which the university operates across departments.
Culture
The culture and atmosphere was supportive, welcoming, fun and productive. My supervisors understood the benefits of hybrid working, there was a supportive, friendly environment in the office in which we were able to bounce ideas off each other and debate issues that face the sector. The team is great at working to everybody's strengths and understands how to get the most out of people.
Your Impressions
I thoroughly enjoyed the insight. I met some incredible people who I am sure I will stay in touch with, I made a number of memories, I found it intellectually stimulating, I learnt an awful lot and I will miss my colleagues.
Yes
I was recommended to use the STAR principle when preparing interview questions. I would encourage applicants to talk about their prior experience but relate it to explain how it will enable you to be successful in the programme.
