    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • The week was very enjoyable. I enjoyed to classroom sessions particularly as someone with little financial knowledge. We had networking every day, and the offices are beautiful. If you have the time to go onto the terrace where you will see how amazing the view is. Much better location than canary wharf!

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • We were given the opportunity on one day to shadow a desk in Global Markets, this was incredibly insightful for as I was able to shadow the desk I would like to work with in the future. This level of exposure was amazing, especially when I signed up I was only promised classroom-based sessions. I felt the recruitment team invested a lot of time and effort into us. There was a lot of exposure to networking.

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the insight?
  • After sessions by the creator of ibank, I developed a better understanding of how a bank works, the functions of the bank and what products are available at Nomura. This has given me the technical knowledge I need to develop an even deeper financial understanding. Every day we had MDs/Directors come to speak to us about their experience and introduce us to their areas.

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Networking skills will help beyond my degree, it has given me more confidence to speak up and ask questions. The technical skills will aid me in interview situations. As this is a sought after skill- although I do economics, we cover little financial terms. So this week has been invaluable.

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the insight?
  • Very well structured. One thing flowed perfectly into the next, we always knew where we had to be, and the communication from the recruitment team was flawless. The week was 'jam-packed' full of activities... once or twice could have done with a break for a coffee. But the reusable water cans were different!

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your insight?
  • I met some amazing people this week. The atmosphere was less corporate than other firms and more focused on us as people and developing us. I think this reflects Nomura's company values. As Britians healthiest company, you could see why one would want to work there. I enjoyed the week very much! Thank you

  • 9. How much did the insight help you in understanding the company culture?

  • 10. How valuable was the content in helping you to decide on your future career path?
  • On Tuesday I was lucky enough to shadow the research desk within Global Markets. I was given a clear overview of the job role, and what skills were required for this desk. It was clear that this was an essential and very exciting role, which was portrayed through the passion my mentor has for her job. We were given the opportunity to ask any questions and were gave us detailed responses to all our questions. I would love to have more experience on this desk.

    Everything Else

  • 11. Were you paid or reimbursed adequately for this experience?
  • Quite an expensive week for myself, living outside London. As I had to pay for my hotel. You get good meals at the offices so lunch is included. I could have done with some cover for my hotel, but it was a great experience all the same. The Women's programme was a paid experience, so I recommend going for the ladies if you can't afford/ have someone to stay with during the explore.

  • 12. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company or firm?
  • We had networking every day! We had Global Markets networking lunch, then shadowing experience. On Wednesday we had speed networking and networking lunch with business reps from Corporate Infrastructure. On Thursday we had a networking lunch, speed networking and practical sessions with business reps from Investment Banking, and sector teams

  • 13. How were the networking/ social event opportunities?
  • 3/5

  • 14. Did you find out about activities that employees can get involved in outside of work?
  • There is a wide range of clubs at Nomura. Including Chess, sports clubs, public speaking clubs (where you can gain confidence and a qualification). On-site there is a gym and a spa. Each employee is given a days paid leave to complete charity work- which can be for your chosen charity or for another.

  • 15. Would you recommend this insight to a friend?
  • Yes. If you want a real insight into banking, with some honest people and a relatively smaller firm, this is perfect. Really great levels of detail and insight into the world of banking. Shadowing and networking opportunities were fantastic. And all the employees were friendly, willing to connect and answer questions
