    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • It was my responsibility to create a coding script that I could later incorporate into a model that the seekers department was already using to determine whether or not my version enhanced it. After that, the team invited me to present my work to them. This required me to document my efforts throughout my placement and alter my script using MatLab every day until it finally worked. We were all working for the same objective, thus I was really involved in the team's overall work.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • I have gained a lot of knowledge about coding and teamwork. I was enrolled in a number of courses to hone my MatLab abilities, which were really beneficial, and I was invited to several meetings with the team to enhance how I present my work to them. On this internship, I also learned how to be more determined and persistent because there were times when my code didn't work and it took weeks to correct it. Those experiences taught me how to maintain my composure and keep going, which helped me gain these traits.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • I was given quite some amount of the authority due to the fact that I was in charge of coming up with my own script and then bringing together it into the original design. Throughout my internship, I maintained excellent relationships with my manager, whose was always available to answer my questions and to work on my computer code with me if I ever required assistance. Despite this, I never felt like I was overly managed.

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • my manager and the team provided me with a lot of encouragement and direction. Someone was always available to assist me whenever I needed it, and they did it in a friendly and instructive way, never making me feel as like I was asking silly questions! My manager gave me a fantastic amount of support and was always there for me to ask him anything, but he also knew when to leave me alone so that I could focus on my work.

  • How would you rate the support and guidance from the wider team?

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • The working environment was excellent, there was a tonne of flexibility with regard to hours, and the campus offered a tonne of activities that were not related to work and contributed to a welcoming and relaxing attitude. In addition to a gym, table tennis tables, and more, there is a subsidised coffee shop and a canteen. The workplace promotes employee interaction and breaks from the computer, which helps us all feel supported and respected rather than micromanaged.

    Your Impressions

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • The fact that I was given work that actually helped the team achieve its end goal rather than feeling as though I was given it merely for its own sake made my internship at MBDA really enjoyable. In addition, their camaraderie and my line managers friendliness allowed me to feel really supported and at ease as I worked through it. After receiving my degree, wanted to come back because I felt like I actually belonged there.

  • 7. Would you recommend MBDA to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 8. What advice would you give to others applying to MBDA
  • The IT department likes to provide the summer postings the old, slow laptops; nevertheless, I would like performing my duties more when I had a more advanced laptop. Be sure to inquire about a better laptop right away. Besides a component of the other placements constitute a terrific community of support, so meet the rest of the others and hang around with them after work! Take advantage of any chance that arises and exert yourself everywhere you can.
