Overview
I worked in ISV in a Flight Trials team, so the day-to-day varied a lot. Pre-trial it involved conducting lots of lab tests to de-risk the trial. During the trial, it involved operating the data recording system in the aircraft, which was an amazing experience and not something I could have expected coming in. I also wrote the conduct report after the trial. I really enjoyed the wide variety of tasks in ISV.
Skills
Not really any technical skills that are directly transferrable to be honest. But I have learnt lots about the various proprietary softwares used within the team (to conduct the lab tests and for the trial) along with the lab setup, which would be very advantageous for coming back. Also, just general background knowledge about missiles, which is interesting. But the biggest development for me has been increased confidence in myself.
Responsibilities
Yes a lot of responsibility, but it didn't feel overwhelming. I was fully integrated into a team and had real and very meaningful work to complete, which felt rewarding. Majority of the work was team-based, and I enjoyed the social aspect of that. I much preferred it this way, as opposed to being given 'side-projects' to independently work on, like at some other companies.
Support & Guidance
Lots of support from the immediate team about teaching me how to use the lab equipment and various softwares etc. It was a great environment to work, where I could ask any question I had.
Culture
Really enjoyed working here and definitely looking to come back. It was a lot more relaxed and laid back than I thought. Everyone is happy to answer your question or help you. I suppose it depends a lot on the specific team you work in, but for me all my colleagues were very nice people.
Your Impressions
Overall it was a great experience and I am very glad I came here rather than a different company.
Yes
Demonstrate an actual interest in the company and the work they do, as opposed to MBDA being 1 out of your 30 applications. Passion is one of the core values! Also, don't be discouraged applying without having any previous engineering work experience - I had only done tutoring before applying.
