    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • My role involves looking at a specific page on the website, analysing it using different analysis tools and identifying what customers are doing and mapping their journey. I have to explore pain points and identify issues. I have to reach out to different departments and present my work and discuss possible ways in which we can improve the page.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • The new main skills I learnt were data analysis, excel, contentsquare, confluence and stakeholder management. The skills I developed were communication, presentation, prioritizing tasks and general computer skills. All of these were done subconsciously while on the job however there are ways that I endorsed my skills through additional learning courses, such as LinkedIn Learning.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • My project was only overlooked by my Line Manager, every proposed change was designed by me and it was solely my responsibility to present it and push it forward. Naturally the proposed changes had to go through several departments and it all had to be agreed upon but it was my responsibility to make sure of that

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • Everyday my Line Manager reached out to me asking if I had any blockers and issues I wanted to raise and whenever they didn't have the answer they would give me the relevant people to get in touch with. Alongside this I had multiple people I could reach out to, for example my Grad Mentor, On-Programme Manager and other Interns and colleagues

    Your Impressions

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • I really enjoyed the internship - it gave me a realistic insight as to what an office job entails and enabled me to develop in many different ways. There were many opportunities to learn about things outside of your job role so it opens a lot of doors for you.

  • 7. Would you recommend HSBC to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 8. What advice would you give to others applying to HSBC
  • Be authentic. Your colleagues will know straight away when you're not being yourself, don't serially network and get to know your team on a personal level and ask how they're doing. Also make the most out of it and keep in mind that this internship is for you to take advantage of so do it - take time to authentically network, learn, complete courses and polish up on skills. Consistently ask for feedback regarding the quality of your work and regarding you as a person - what I always did was send an email to main stakeholders after a meeting with them and asked for feedback.
