    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of the virtual internship and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.
  • The 4 day placement revolved around a set agenda which focused on giving a holistic overview of the operations of the firm. This meant that each day had a different thing to offer but it generally involved working through legal case studies, networking activities and information sessions hosted by different sectors of the firm such as Intellectual Property and Global Financial Markets. As well as sessions exploring fundamental skills and core values.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I would say I have definitely built on my confidence when It comes to networking, even though the placement was virtual having the camera and mic on and being pushed outside of my comfort zone can be an intimidating but incredibly rewarding task. I would also say the legal case studies required us to confront problems head on from both a legal and commercial perspective, effectively developing my problem solving skills.

    Business Insight

  • 3. What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?
  • The experience was definitely very eye opening and motivating. Exposure to the diversity of roles available in the legal career was very reassuring yet even more thrilling as it demonstrated no day of a legal professional is the same! The placement underlined that each client and each case requires input from a wide range of experts and teams meaning there is something for everyone. I was even introduced to an area I had never considered before - IP law!

  • 4. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • Attending the Launch event I was very nervous however, all my worries were immediately put to bed when I received the most heartwarming welcome. The firm has a very genuinely welcoming atmosphere and truly holds inclusion as a core value. Even through the virtual placement it was evident everyone was very willing to help and answer as many questions as possible. Many were even dedicated to building our networks and offered to connect on LinkedIn!

  • 8. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Clifford Chance
  • For the online applications my best advice would be always maintain your focus on the question- remember you don't have a lot of words! When it comes to interviews - do your research on the firm, know everything the programme consist of, really think about why you are applying and know if it is a problem based interview (this will be in the interview email) and most importantly be yourself!
