  • I have enhanced my time management skills by prioritising time for my intern projects, placement projects, client meetings as well as personal development courses when need be. I have engaged with senior stakeholders and clients which improved my networking and effective communication skills.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • I was given some responsibility when it came to writing up a client RFP. I reached out to internal members to ask related questions to ensure the proposal was up to the highest standard. I also was responsible in contacting team members to be part of their client meetings and understand more about what they do. I was also in charge of an internal project to ensure accuracy of cards deals throughout the year.

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • I received a tremendous amount of support as I had many contacts to reach out to including my on-programme manager, line manager, and grad mentor, as well as intern programmes. My line manager gave me a lot of guidance and checked in on me almost daily to make sure I was making the most of my internship.

  • I enjoyed my internship very much as everyone was so lovely to speak to, my line manager supported me if I ever needed anything, and I was social lead for the intern cohort so had good relationships with everyone.

  • 8. What advice would you give to others applying to HSBC
  • I would say to just be yourself. It’s really easy to view the financial industry as a cut-throat, competitive environment where you need to be the best constantly, but at HSBC everyone appreciates you for you. The diversity and inclusiveness is evident at this bank and it’s very refreshing to be part of. Be open and willing to meet a variety of people and don’t be scared to reach out to certain individuals as everyone is so welcoming and happy to talk no matter how senior.
