    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • Some but not a lot as I didn't have the power to finally publish my own work. Everything I did was checked by someone else so never 'left to my own devices' but that is the nature of the systems we used and the company is highly highly cautious due to the consequences were we to breach industry compliance.

  • Please rate how meaningful the work you were doing was
  • 3/5

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • I received a lot of support with 2-3 times a week meetings with my supervisor and once a week with my assigned buddy, then after the initial 3 month induction or this was reduced to once a week with supervisor only.

  • How would you rate the support and guidance from your line manager?

  • How would you rate the support and guidance from the wider team?

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • People were always positive and smiling and the company has very high retention rates with many (>50%) being there for decades and this can make it feel like a members only club, where you as an outsider find it hard to break in. At networking events many 'veterans' congregate in small groups and I found these events made me (shy person) feel very lonely, I could only talk to the other undergrads.

    Your Impressions

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • I did not enjoy it. I wasn't sure of the value I was contributing eg some videos had 0 views over 2 years; my work felt futile. I also felt the degree of strictness and 'compliance' was a waste of my time sometimes (several hours spent working to approve the use of a Pfizer table cloth for promotional meetings with instructions etc). First 3months was confusing, at the end my motivation was very low.

  • 7. Would you recommend Pfizer to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 8. What advice would you give to others applying to Pfizer
  • It depends on who you are. The permanent staff / other interns seemed to genuinely believe in their work. Maybe it's my personal qualities not aligning to this type of work. I would say they value work to excellent standards but the approval process is extremely tedious and slow, feels like wading through treacle to reach your goals, high sense of frustration in any pharma work. Low sense of value personally in my brand.
