    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • As a regulatory strategist, I was responsible for archiving any communications between Pfizer and the EMA on Pfizer’s archiving systems; I also took meeting minutes at various meetings between the EMA and Pfizer; I was responsible for authoring various regulatory documents for a marketing authorisation application (cover letter, notes to reviewers, and information relating to paediatrics); I peer reviewed other regulatory components to check them for any inaccuracies or errors; I also mapped out timelines to ensure we could track when queries would be expected

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • Developed my teamwork skills; presentation skills; organisation skills; creativity; adaptability and ability to pick up new information quickly; Microsoft Office skills; networking; written and verbal communication skills. I developed my communication skills through the Comm-up sessions which were run for the regulatory undergraduates. This involved video interviews, thinking on your feet, formal presentations, and speaking for several minutes without the aid of a powerpoint. I also enjoyed the opportunity to present to different groups, such as in the threehands charity project, and to regulatory interns in the US.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • I was given the perfect level of responsibility during my placement. In the beginning of the placement, when I was apprehensive and didn't have too much knowledge of regulatory, I was given smaller tasks to build up my confidence, and my manager would check over what I had written/completed prior to sending it off to anyone. As the placement progressed, I became more confident in what I was doing, and gained more responsibility, such that I completed tasks without asking my manager to check over them first.

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • I received a lot of support and guidance during my placement, from my manager, my buddy and my team. In February I became overwhelmed with my workload as I had agreed to take on a lot of different responsibilities, so I spoke to my manager and buddy and they helped to relieve some of the pressure from me, by finding other people to take over some of my work. I have always been able to ask as many questions as I needed to, and they were always so supportive.

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • Everyone I met at Pfizer has been very lovely, supportive and always happy to help. The atmosphere at [This section of the comment has been removed by a member of the RateMyPlacement Team because it did not meet our site terms and conditions] is always buzzing and positive, and there is a nice community of people in the office. I enjoyed all of the JOY events, such as the easter hunt, christmas market, walton oaks bake off etc, as well as the BBQ on the lawn, and other special events. I also like the concept of the wellness day.

    Your Impressions

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • I thoroughly enjoyed my placement with Pfizer. I enjoyed the social nature of the office, and how many fellow undergraduates are employed, which helped to create a lively atmosphere in the office. I enjoyed the extra opportunities, such as the three hands social impact project, the Talking Circles initiative I ran etc. I also enjoyed being involved in meaningful work as a regulatory strategist, and being trusted to write documents that would be sent off to regulatory agencies.

  • 8. What advice would you give to others applying to Pfizer
  • If you are successful in gaining a position at Pfizer, take advantage of all of the opportunities available to you! Do as much networking as possible; get involved in a CRG; participate in the three hands social impact project; do some shadowing in a department that interests you; push yourself out of your comfort zone; start a new club. Always ask any questions to members of your team, everyone is more than happy to help.
