    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • It involved participating in group meetings. Reviewing EGAs and assisting senior associates with general admin activities. I regularly assisted the engagement leader on one of his extra funds where I completed a significant amount of market research. This was particularly interesting as I very much enjoy research based tasks. I was apprehensive to begin with as I was unsure whether the work I was completing would be of great use, however the senior associate assured me that what I was doing was worthwhile.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • I have learned to use new software I have never used before. Learning to navigate Aura software was challenging and definitely took a few tried to get the hang of it but once I did it was easier to find my way around. It also took some getting used to navigating the PWC microsite. Learning to use all the new interfaces was challenging. Prior to this i had never filled out a time sheet so this was a new experience for me.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • I was pleasantly surprised with the amount of responsibility that was entrusted to me which made me feel good about the senior associates trusting my ability. It was daunting at the beginning being entrusted to carry out tasks of significant importance however once I gained confidence in the work I was doing I felt much more capable. On another occasion an associate even asked me how to complete a task which took me a back but I tried my hardest to help them.

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • There were always people there to answer any questions or queries I had and never complained when I got confused. My buddy in particular fell victim to my many questions however never faltered in her enthusiasm and commitment to helping me complete my assigned tasks. Senior associates even took time out of their busy schedule to have catch ups and complete feedback for me which was very much appreciated. As a whole the team I worked with were extremely supportive.

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • Surprisingly a lot more relaxed than what I was expecting. I was expecting an extremely intense environment however this wasn't the case. Everyone was super approachable and it was a lot more of an informal setting than I'd first anticipated. The culture is very positive and supportive of your individual growth and that is very much demonstrated by those who work there. My overall experience here has been a positive one that I'd definitely recommend.

    Your Impressions

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • I enjoyed it so much more than I anticipated due to the relaxed culture as well as the content of the work I was completing. I was particularly lucky to have been placed in Asset Wealth Management Audit as this is definitely something I find particularly interesting. It allowed me to pull knowledge from different areas. Although I missed out on going to client sites which many Northern Commercial Auditor did I massively prefered the work I was doing.

  • 8. What advice would you give to others applying to PwC
  • Definitely apply. Although the application process is difficult if you can make it through it's definitely worth it. Everyone is so open and honest about their experiences and what it's truly like working here. I'd recommend getting involved in as many socials as possible. It's a great opportunity to network in a more laid back situation. It's also great for team building and an outlet from work. As far as I can see the community that's been built for those sitting exams is also extremely supportive.
