    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of the insight and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.
  • I started out the scheme with a day of talks where partners from various practice areas gave us insights into the finance and corporate practice areas. We also went for networking sessions with other trainees and other associates. We were then allocated to our practice areas for 4 days where we did work on real deals. There were also mandatory tasks to complete. We ended the scheme with a talk on what to expect for a TC.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I learnt to be more thorough and careful when it comes to drafting and proofreading letters. I also developed my commercial awareness as I got to see our a deal typically takes place in real time. Moreover, I was able to see the micro aspect of how law firms conduct their business such as through the enforcement of letters and legal opinions that might not seem to be too big in the grand scheme of things but are still really important.

  • It was a very insightful experience because we got to see the day to day tasks of a commercial lawyer in a large international firm. I also got to see how the various practice areas conducted their business around their clients. I attended client calls and took meeting minutes to get an idea of the type of work CC does and also how the law firm is able to value add to their clients business.
