    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • Checking the integrity of half-year reports and escalating any errors to ensure the final version is correct. Meeting with other teams to understand how their role feeds into the preparation of the reports. peer reviewing aspects of other companies' ARAs to see how we could improve ours. Attended a volunteering day, I chose to do this at British Heart Foundation. Had to take part in a business challenge where i was teamed up with other finance interns and we had to answer a brief and then present our solution at the end of the internship.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • Learnt a lot about the company and the skills they value. Learnt how to network and the whole internship has really improved my confidence and allowed me an insight into the industry. I have developed my problem solving skills, having to navigate new software and create spreadsheets from scratch. I have learnt more about financial reports and it has been really beneficial to work with real reports rather than basic examples used at university. I have improved upon my evaluation skills by peer reviewing and have been able to look back at my own work and recognise what i could have done differently and how i would improve next time.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • Yes. I was responsible for some individual projects which I was left alone to complete, but if I needed any guidance everyone in my team was happy to help and offer advice. I was given reports to check for casting errors which freed up other members of the team to do work which I am unable to do. I felt like a valued member of the team and as though my work was important.

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • Everyone in my team was very supportive. The induction programme - both the general company one and role specific one - were very thorough and informative. There is a large network of graduates who are so helpful and happy to talk. You are paired with one graduate for the duration of your internship who you meet with weekly. My manager was very supportive and i enjoyed our weekly catch-ups where I would tell her about my week in detail and she would offer feedback.
