Technical Industrial Placement Review

I am a Developer in the space sector, which means I fix any bugs in the codebase or implement new features as told. Day to day, I might have a stand-up meeting to report my progress/blockers to the rest of the team and then spend the rest of my working day progressing with my tasks, meeting with my colleagues for help with blockers or starting something new if I had finished.

I've developed my C++ skills during my placement, as this is the language the tool I've been assigned to uses. I have also increased my python skills in regards to Machine Learning a lot during the Student Kickstart Initiative project, which will help me a lot in my final year of university.

In the last few months of my placement, I've been solely in charge of the improvements to one of the tools on my project. I still have access to help when I need it, but I am trusted to ask for it when I need.

I have been given a lot of support during my placement. On my first day I was given a buddy to help me get started and I was always paired up with a more senior member of the team to help me with my tasks when I needed it.

The company culture is very friendly. There is the Sports and Social club where you can go to work events like the theatre, meals or do sports for free/extremely discounted where I've met a lot of people. There was also a lot of graduates and other placement students when I started so I felt more comfortable as I had other people of my age around me.

I enjoyed my placement a lot. I have met lots of friends and gained helpful experience that I'll use in the future.
