    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • Support EHS Department on Industrial Emissions Directive (IED Project) which is a project to address the new environmental legislation using chemical engineering knowledge. Take part in various process safety studies such as Permit to Work GEMBA, MAH Drill Down and Process Hazard Review.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • I have gained a lot of knowledge on many manufacturing processs and unit operation including distillation and drying in a primary manufacturing site. This has advanced what I have learned back at university. I also have strengthened not only my technical skills such as problem-solving and data analysis alongside with soft skills such as teamwork and communication.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • I got to work on a lot of projects in which I worked without any close supervision. I also was given many development opportunities through different projects across different business functions, not only in the department I was working for. This allowed me to expand my skills and knowledge in both depth and breath.

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • I felt very embracing and supportive everywhere I went in the company, no matter it was a process technician, my supervisor, team members or someone high up in the company such as managers and Senior Leadership Team. They were always happy to provide my support and guidance every time I was looking for.

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • I would say GSK Montrose make me feel like a family. Everyone is just very friendly and supportive. We treat each other like friends and family. It creates an environment where you can feel very comfortable. No matter where are you from and what background do you have, you always feel welcoming and embracing.

    Your Impressions

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • It was the best placement I ever had. I not only gained a lot of hands-on experience as a chemical engineer and got to explore different business areas, but also took part in many social events such as volunteering and fundraising. The placement also helped me to determine that pharmaceutical is the industry I would like to spend my career at.

  • Be competent and prepare your best as it is competitive. But don't forget to be yourself throughout the application process as that what GSK is looking for.
