    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • I work with large Clinical Trial data sets using SAS and R to help analyse this data and create reports to then feed back. I spend most of my time in R and Excel and also using PowerPoint to give my reports.

  • Learnt a lot of communication and working as a team, especially knowing when and who to ask for help when I'm stuck.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • I have been in 2 departments here at GSK, in the first I didn't have much responsibility as it was all high priority work being done so I mainly shadowed other Statisticians. However, in my second rotation I have been given a lot of responsibility and am treated as an equal team member. I have also been able to contribute a lot of work to two scientific papers that will be published.

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • I received a lot of support during my placement, the hard part was knowing who and when to ask as sometimes this can be quite intimidating, but whenever I asked for help I was supported well.

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • I think there's a really good company culture in my department. We are given realistic deadlines that sometimes we must work hard to meet but I don't feel overworked. There are also lots of different Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) which I take an active part in so this is a good way to meet people and feel comfortable at work.

  • I have really enjoyed my placement. It was extremely sociable since there's so many IPs and the work has been varied and interesting.
