  • I have developed technical skills in excel, power bi and various Unilever systems. In terms of personal development, I have learnt how to take initiatives, been able to take on large responsibilities by leading projects and workshops, and I have deepened skills such as time-management, organisation, listening and communicating.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • Yes - I was given the lead for a project that was to be presented in a workshop in front of other teams and functions within the business. The other IPs (within our function) and I were also given the responsibility by our managers to recruit the following year’s placement students.

  • I have received lots of support and guidance from my line manager, however, I have found it more difficult to get support from the future careers team

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • The culture at Unilever is very warm and friendly. The bottom-up organisation structure is very clear and you always feel that the work you do has a purpose, even from working at the lower end of the hierarchy. Employees are always happy to give advice and help in the case of being stuck on current projects, as well as giving career advice.

  • I have loved my placement year - there have been lots of opportunities to network within the function I work in, however, I only wish that was the case for other functions of the business.
