    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • Daily tasks include: - Supporting the day-to-day administrative requirements of various projects and product requests. - Inserting and tracking progress of projects, generating and checking forms for project initiation, change requests and close down; continuously monitoring and updating timeline, scope and budget changes and making sure all stakeholders have up-to-date information. - Supporting analysts and senior management in preparation, scheduling, running and minuting internal and external meetings across EMEA, LatAm and APAC territories. - Generating and submitting weekly and monthly PowerBI reports to senior management. Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • There's a short series of "lectures" at the beginning as part of the training, there's a lot to learn about content programming, scheduling, media planning and internal software. NBCU offers LinkedIn Learning for free and encourages to use it, I did basic training for Excel, Word, Outlook and PowerPoint which turned out extremely helpful. I definitely developed my attention to detail and technical skills. I also learned A LOT about project management, which is an extremely useful transferrable skill.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • I was responsible for tracking all the existing project and inserting the new ones on a master tracker. I ran a lot of board meeting, presenting the objects of discussion, taking notes and issuing agendas and minutes. I was occasionally assigned small projects where I did the reporting on Raid Logs which put me in contact with people all over the business and got a chance to ask questions about their role and experience. I was also responsible for generating template for various forms and issuing them once completed. Overall a good amount of responsibilities but easily manageble!

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • I received constant support and guidance during my internship. I was assigned to a mentor with whom I had daily meetings to go over everything that needed to be done during the day. I also had weekly meetings with my manager and the team and monthly meetings with the wider team to look at the status of strategic projects and the roadmap as a whole. I always had an idea of what was going on and the team is very keen on keeping you up to date!

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • Everyone is very nice and happy to help with a task or to answer any questions. I asked for a meeting with several people to talk about their experience and their role and everyone was very excited to discuss any question I had, which is extremely helpful if you're considering staying at the company in a different role. The working pattern is 3 days in the office and 2 working from home but due to a health condition I had to ask for some flexibility which was granted with no problems at all, the manager was very understanding!

    Your Impressions

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • I thoroughly enjoyed my time at NBCU and it was a great way to learn more about the tv/broadcasting industry and project management. It's also a great name to have on your cv! The only downside, if I have to choose one, is that there's no direct path to get into a permanent job, I'm on my last 3 months and I'm still waiting to see if there are any openings in the company for a full-time role which can be a bit nerve wreaking. Overall I learned a lot and I'm sure it's all gonna be extremely helpful wherever I land next!

  • 7. Would you recommend NBCUniversal to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 8. What advice would you give to others applying to NBCUniversal
  • Definitely recommend applying to the internship as it's a great way to learn and test out if you like the industry! There are some positions that are extremely competitive (like marketing and production) but others are fairly easy to land if you show interest and passion! The process only requires a recorded interview and an interview with the line manager so it's very simple. Prepare yourself for a lot of fun and great benefits like premier tickets, merch and socials!
