    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • I work on the categories cake, bread, savoury grocery, sweet grocery and free from for Co-op looking after the Co-op own brand products in these categories ranges. I am responsible for everything that happens to these products from concept of new products to launch and improvement of existing products. This covers tasting products, working with buyers technical managers and project managers, working with suppliers, looking at trends, benchmarking against the market, quality improvements, packaging and artwork

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • Yes, I have been given lots of responsibility which is great and makes me feel like I am gaining experience as a proper product developer. I have been given my own project of developing the Christmas range for the Cake Category and have been given my own category to look after the day to day off (sweet grocery).

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • I have received a great amount of support and guidance. My line manager is really supportive and always available to help if I need her but the whole product development team have been really supportive and kind and I would feel comfortable approaching any of them. My first week of placement was a handover week with the previous placement student and that was great to help me settle into the role without feeling overwhelmed

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • Everyone at Co-op is lovely, really friendly and the atmosphere is great. The only slight negative is that there is only really 1 day a week where the majority of the team are in the office because of hybrid working
