    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • I have a few daily tasks and responsibilities such as: Writing a daily newsletter of Film industry news which gets sent to a wide distribution list. Chasing territories via email to submit Box Office information for Universal titles and opening/pre-opening reports for the upcoming/past weekend. Approving local title requests from territories to be added to our database. Completing Box Office reporting for Competitive (Non-Universal titles) at either side of the weekend. In terms of individual projects, I have organised a wide monthly trailer meeting to discuss estimates & comps and currently I am creating a new Excel sheet for competitive reporting.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • Coming from an essay-based degree at university of Lancaster, I have expanded my skills in Excel greatly. When I started I knew very little about Excel but through the course of this placement I have learnt more formulas and data manipulation skills. I have become more savvy with using other Microsoft programs such as Word and PowerPoint. For example, I have used PowerPoint more precisely in helping my team edit PowerPoint decks to senior management.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • In many areas of my role, I have been given lots of responsibility. For example, I am constantly in charge of sending emails to wide distribution lists which I proofread carefully before sending. A lot of these emails are relied upon from other departments such as Finance. Also, tasks such as Box Office reporting are sent to the Senior Management Team, including Presidents, VPs and Managing Directors. I am responsible for checking all the data and statistics make sense and are correct before sending out.

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • I have received a lot of support and guidance throughout my placement at NBCUniversal. The weekly catch-ups I have with my manager are great at touching base with what I am working on, and a good opportunity to ask for advice and help on the projects I am undertaking. It is also a great time to ask my manager on what they are working on, to gain a greater understanding of what the team are working on individually.

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • The company culture is such a good blend of relaxed and what is expected, and it feels great to be a part of. As in, providing the important daily tasks are completed and individual projects are well under way, there are so many opportunities to be social with colleagues and you're rewarded for your efforts. There are so many great organised events on the 10th floor such as the football viewing party which help expand the social aspect of work. In my team especially, it really does feel more like the vibe of a family.

    Your Impressions

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • I have enjoyed this placement immensely. From a work stand point, I feel I have progressed in my technical skills which will prove helpful in future. I have had the opportunity to use my existing knowledge of Film to help provide insight in meetings. I have also had the once in a lifetime chance to attend amazing events like premieres and galas. The placement has also been great socially, as multiple departments around my team are always willing to organise events such as quizzes and karaoke after work, which are great to get to know people further.

  • 7. Would you recommend NBCUniversal to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 8. What advice would you give to others applying to NBCUniversal
  • I would advise other prospective applicants to be yourself and take as many opportunities as you can. NBCUniversal is a great workplace that gives chances for interns to progress and become an even better version of themselves. This has happened throughout my time here, as I've been given new responsibilities and chances to learn at every corner. I would also advise to network as much as you can, the environment here is so open and relaxed, you can ask people for a coffee and ask them about their career, how they started, etc. So take advantage to learn from them!
