    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • My role is to design and execute bespoke cellular assays to investigate and validate new platform technologies and explore mechanistic hypotheses regarding safety across all phases in the drug development process.

  • I have developed many laboratory skills such as maintaining a cell line, pipetting work and conducting mitochondrial assays. I have also learnt how to become organized, communicate effectively and manage my time well.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • I was given full responsibility once I was trained and able to begin my project. My project was done very independently but I always had support around me if needed.

  • I had a lot of support from my direct line manger and everyone in my team. My colleagues were always around to give me productive feedback and help if I ever requested. I never felt isolated or alone during my project

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • Everyone was very friendly and willing to help. I also had the opportunity to shadow many other departments as all employees were always eager to have a conversation about their project and wanted to show you what work they conducted.

  • I enjoyed it so much and it has only benefitted me massively. I am so grateful to have been able to complete my placement at GSK and wouldn't have changed anything about it.
