    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of the insight and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.
  • The first day, we had a firm wide introduction. We were able to network briefly with all divisions before splitting off into individual divisions. On our first day, we started work on a presentation where we designed a platform to streamline IPOs. We worked on this during the first and second day. We then presented this on the third day. It was a great opportunity to work on a collaborative project whilst simultaneously learning more about financial concepts. On the second day, we heard more from IST and how that area of the division works. We also engaged in a trading coding challenge. The challenge was extremely fun and well polished. However, it would have been better to have more time to build trading algorithms. After this, we had dinner with other employees and learned more about their paths to Morgan Stanley. It was a great way to informally break the ice and get a deeper look at Morgan Stanley. On the third day, we learned about ETS and had an interactive session where we broke down assembly code. The interactive session seemed slightly disconnected or out of place. On the fourth day, we had a charity event where we learned about the firm's commitment to giving back to the community.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • The group project challenged me to work in a team and develop critical problem-solving and presentation skills. I also improved my trading and analytical skills during the trading challenge and assembly language exercise. Both the trading exercise and group project deepened my knowledge of the financial environment. Additionally, the charity activity taught me about teamwork and giving back to the community. The networking sessions also helped me improve my communication and networking skills, as I interacted with employees and managing directors.
