    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • Client-facing role where you need to have industry knowledge and awareness across banks, asset management, FinTechs and insurance. Conduct peer comparisons even from an ESG angle to provide clients with updated solutions and work closely with product partners in investment banking, markets and TTS to meet client needs. Corporate bankers manage the client relationship so need to remain vigilant for any cross-selling opportunities which may arise by maintaining dialogue with the client and internal teams.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • I learned how to be much more efficient on powerpoint and excel as these become tools which are used on a daily basis to build internal and client decks. Learning how to prioritise and manage expectations particularly with more senior employees were other key skills that I acquired. I also practised my presentation skills and sharpened them by learning to convey concepts in an accessible and concise manner.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • I was handed considerable responsibility, for example, I had the chance to send emails out directly to one of our asset management clients which was quite a nice thing to do as an intern. I also conducted some peer comparison research on FX hedging for a client which formed part of a deck which was included in the client presentation.

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • The analysts particularly were very helpful with their guidance as they helped us to avoid mistakes which they had previously made when they were interns. But more widely, employees were always willing to help and explain concepts and this added a nice dynamic to the overall experience.

  • How would you rate the support and guidance from the wider team?

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • My team had a very vibrant culture and there was a sense of camaraderie even across seniority within the team. Weekly socials ensured that we had time to get to know one another on a more personal level.

    Your Impressions

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • I thoroughly enjoyed the internship experience as it provided me with a more in-depth understanding of Financial Institutions operate and the services which they require. The people were very welcoming at Citi and the team facilitated our learning by organising weekly teach-ins with product partners.
