    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • As I said, this is a varied role. It was a remote internship at the Global Large Law Segment of Thomson Reuters. Some of the tasks were doing a research project about the technology arms of TR's customers, researching key contacts and supporting events logistics around a mental health first aid day at the office. I assisted customer calls, as well. The role was very flexible, as I collaborated with both the US and the UK teams.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • Yes, definitely. I improved my communication, organisation, prioritisation, and ability to get things done. By exploring new ways of working with customers, new revenue streams and integrating new parts of the business into Global Large Law, I became more agile and flexible to align with key priorities. I learned how to have a can-do attitude and be a team-player. Now, I am comfortable to carry out both qualitative and quantitative assessments and to work in an agile fashion. I am better organised with stronger verbal and written communication skills.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • It was a mixture of both learning and working - for example, I had a lot of calls to get to know the whole team personally as well as that based in the US. They introduced me to their day-to-day work, but in my last days I had to prepare templates for proposals to customers, using a new digital platform. Also, on my last day I delivered a presentation on my main research project and the team leader told me it would be of much help in the future.

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • I received much support and guidance during the internship - my supervisor was always willing to help me and explain what I did not understand. I could send a message to anyone on Teams and would get a reply very quickly. They were very understanding - I had to miss a meeting due to a medical appointment and there was no problem at all. I was more than happy with the support at the Global Large Law Segment.

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • It is fantastic - I was impressed by the possibility to work from abroad for a month and the remote model of working. There is a plethora of affinity groups and the one that stroke me as the most interesting was related to veterans and their spouses (my supervisor introduced me to it in more detail). In addition, the BAME society is very well-developed, as I attended a few sessions organised by them. Paternity and maternity leaves are favourable too.

    Your Impressions

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • The GLLF team felt like family. I enjoyed communicating with them so much, as everyone was extremely friendly, accommodating, and understanding. They treated me as a colleague and not as an external person. I cannot think of a thing to complain about. My supervisor made my transition as smooth as possible. The projects I worked on were very interesting and enriching. Similarly, the meetings with my colleagues were very insightful, since I learned something from every single member of the team.
