    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • On a typical day basis, I usually perform the following task: 1. Outline my to-do list for the day, based on my agreed objectives for the week. 2. Attend a stand-up huddle meeting, discuss any challenge with supervisor 3. Progress daily task with Python, MS-Excel or any other software 4. Lunch with colleagues and casual work around the river don 5 Complete task or transfer to the next day (if unable to complete)

  • I have learnt the following technical skills: - Python scripting using pandas, - how to access data on foundry using tags, - how to perform data analysis using quiver Besides technical skills, I also developed the following existing skills: - technical communication skill, - interpersonal skills: respect, one-team, - time management skill: work prioritization

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • Yes. The responsibilities were pre-discussed with my line-manager and key objectives were agreed at the commencement of the internship. There was a mid-term review mid-way during the review. Opportunity was given to discuss the progress during the review.

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • I received sufficient support from both my line manager and supervisor during my internship. There was a biweekly check-in with line-manager to assess progress. My supervisor also supported me with access to software needed to accomplish my intern objectives

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • I found that everyone was generally willing to help you achieve your task. The general atmosphere at the office is that of kindness and warmth for example, during lunch we get the opportunity to join senior members and ask them career questions

    Your Impressions

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • We had good social events planned by the P&C early careers team all through the internship. Some of these events involved mind-racking games, team-building fun exercises and physical exercises. I also got to try new food types during my internship

  • 8. What advice would you give to others applying to bp
  • My advice can be summarized in two sections: 1. Before internship: Apply early, choose the right department that aligns with your passion, submit all documents and prepare for the technical interview 2. During internship: Work hard, be sure to maximize every support you can get especially from your immediate team, don't be afraid to ask questions and finally enjoy your time!
