  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • Working alongside bp team to verify and assure work done by external contractors on the topsides on ACE. Attend meetings daily to deliver project in the most agile manner.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • Learnt about valves, piping, heat exchangers, sour service, pressure vessel packages. By doing so, I gained knowledge about various industry codes and specifications and the viability/scope to ensure safety from bp learnings.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • I was generally given a good amount of responsibility on the different tasks. For one task, which was high priority, I was given a lot of opportunity to take responsibility by leading it from the Mechanical team. Other tasks, I was given freedom to ask for more responsibility when applicable.

  • There was always someone to ping/approach when stuck or unsure about the work. It was an extremely welcoming atmosphere for questions and guidance.

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • A very welcoming and kind company undergoing change to make a real difference in the industry. People are willing to meet and talk about their experiences and role. There is a lot of opportunity to ask for work in other parts of the business. Structure is very flat and inclusive.

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • Was pushed during the internship and felt extremely satisfied at the end with the volume of knowledge I gained. Expanded my network and diversified my knowledge about the energy industry, so in turn, a very productive and enjoyable experience.

  • 8. What advice would you give to others applying to bp
  • Make sure you understand the culture and code of conduct. Research the industry and the key players. Ensure you have the necessary technical knowledge but also understand that you will not have the answers to all the questions asked, so focus on your train of thought.
