Global Advisory Review

I began by learning about the Rothschild & Co business, including their heritage and family roots. The family has a long history and their values are intertwined with those of the business today. Later, I gained an deeper insight into the business, with a focus on Global Advisory. I was able to learn more about other areas of Rothschild too. There were plenty of opportunities to network and get to know professionals in their field at Rothschild.

Networking was one of my weakest skills having never really had the opportunity to previously use it. This was quickly turned around during this experience as there were several opportunities to practice networking and to actually network with employees. This even extended to the summer interns. There was plenty of guidance on how best to network and I felt well informed throughout the experience. Other skills I was able to develop include team working, time management, and interview skills.

There was a big focus on understanding the business, including it’s heritage and ties with the Rothschild family, and how this explains the values of Rothschild and Co. It was enjoyable and useful being able to understand why Rothschild and Co conducts business in the way it does. Information about roles was clear - there are a number of divisions you can start in and there is the ability to move across these different business areas.

The company culture was very friendly and resembled one big family. Everyone works cohesively as a team and is keen to look after clients and the reputation of Rothschild & Co. The atmosphere reinforced this as staff seemed engaging and willing to extend a helping hand. Initiatives such as participation in The Social Mobility Foundation further reinforce this and show Rothschild & Co to be a business committed to being ethical and for supporting the greater good.

I really enjoyed the insight week as it was a first-time experience and so was very unique. I found each day to be very well put together and each session complimented the one before and after it seamlessly. The staff we were working with were very friendly, welcoming, and on hand to help in any way they could. There was plenty of freedom and flexibility enabling me to feel settled in. This was important due to the significant nature of the work done at Rothschild & Co.
