    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • Met the team and completed any tasks (mainly admin) that people needed help with. Joined Director's client calls and took notes, completed risk processes, completed invoices and drafted emails and letters to clients. I was given consistent amounts of work throughout the programme and was given responsibility over all the risk processes for a new client during my internship.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • The team were great at teaching me how to use different KPMG programmes e.g. for expenses, timesheets, learning platforms. I was given ample opportunity to network and meet people from different parts of the company. My team members also often reached out to teach me about new tax processes or clients I hadn't come across before.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • I was often exposed to business and was able to work independently on a number of different client projects. KPMG operates with "high trust" and my team trusted me to get on with the work I was given. I was given some admin tasks but also was given responsibility to draft client emails and invoices. I was asked to take and write up notes for directors' client calls.

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • I was consistently supported throughout my time. I was immediately put into contact with a 'buddy' by the Director that recruited me. The "People Leader" introduced me to my Performance Manager via email on my first day. The team were incredibly supportive throughout, my Director often invited me to her meetings and my Performance Manager organised regular catch ups. The Early Careers Development team also hosted regular drop-in catch up meetings.

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • I was immediately invited to a Networking Event hosted in the London office for all Tax D&E grades. All my expenses were covered and I was able to meet my team in a relaxed and encouraging environment. I attended a Group Volunteering day along with the Milton Keynes team and was able to clear an overgrown path in a local park. This was great for teambuilding and highlighted the charity initiatives available.

    Your Impressions

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • I had a fantastic experience at KPMG as my team made sure to check up on me and allocate work to me. I met the majority of my team as well as meeting adjacent Tax teams and colleagues from different offices. The company culture is very friendly and supportive so I was never afraid to ask questions. The programme exceeded my expectations and I would love to return.

  • 7. Would you recommend KPMG to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 8. What advice would you give to others applying to KPMG
  • The KPMG culture is more relaxed than the other Big 4 firms so I would recommend showing off your personality during the interview. Highlight that you're a team player and happy to learn new things. At entry level, I believe that KPMG look for people who can work well in teams, rather than candidates who have the best grades/experience.
