  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • Working days consist of meetings with users on how the team can improve or enhance their regulation reporting process. Working with a variety of different projects such as user based projects, automation projects and testing projects.

  • Business Skills - data handling skills, excel (pivot tables, conditional formatting etc), data visualisation software such as Qlikview, and project management skills. Soft skills - Outlook calendar, OneNote and networking

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • Yes! I had a lot of exposure to a variety of projects when working in my team. Throughout various projects I was communicating to various users on different projects. I worked with global teams such as Mumbai and Germany.

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • Yes! My line manager made my experience at Morgan Stanley very comfortable. I was welcomed into the team, and made aware that no question was a silly question! During my first few weeks I shadowed all team members to get an overall overview of the team and to meet everyone - everyone in the team had time for me and made me feel welcome. I also had a buddy who I met with once a week - very helpful with learning soft skills such as OneNote, Iconf and Outlook Calendar.

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • A lot of HR events during my internship - very helpful to learn more about Morgan Stanley and their culture, as well as keep in touch with fellow interns. I enjoy emails containing opportunities to learn more about other teams within the division. This allowed me to learn more about Morgan Stanley and their teams. Morgan Stanley stick to their core values and ensure their values are supported by their actions - for example, global volunteering month. All staff I encountered were more than happy to help with any questions or provide overviews of their team. This made my experience very enjoyable, and a great learning experience!

    Your Impressions

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • I thoroughly enjoyed my placement - I learned a lot of practical skills, as well as soft skills, and expanded my current technical knowledge. It was also a great opportunity to explore any career interests, and discover new ones. I enjoyed networking and meeting new people!

  • 8. What advice would you give to others applying to Morgan Stanley
  • Be organised! Apply early and ensure assessment centres and interview are booked early! Be yourself! Most applicants are at similar stages to you at university. Emphasis why you'd be a good addition to Morgan Stanley - what skills and qualities can you provide? Do your research - think why you want to work for Morgan Stanley and ensure that is emphasised in interviews.
