  • Responsibilities include the specification of machinery, co-ordination of activities within internal teams and external partners, project planning and execution, project reporting, management reporting, and budget tracking and reporting. My principle Accountabilities have included the completion of technology feasibility studies, specification & design of new manufacturing technologies & processes. As well as this I have worked on the qualification of new processes within the development and manufacturing environment and helped to provide technical documentation to support new manufacturing processes.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • I have improved my regular reporting and updating of project plans dashboards and worked on my overall project planning. I have also developed skills linked to tracking, managing and reporting project budgets and/or assets. Following on, I have been Liaising with technical & non-technical stakeholders and reviewed the technology landscape to enable the development of future technology platforms. Finally I have been able to develop skills relating to Identification & evaluation of management / technology tools to optimise any development processes.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • I was given lots of responsibility during my time at British American Tobacco. This included taking ownership over design projects and delivering key engineering components from start to finish. I also was given the responsibility of working with internal as well as external stakeholders to further the business and discuss key commercial situations and solutions. Finally, I was given opportunity to lead various projects and take them from simple concepts all the way to a final viable solution

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • I received lots of guidance and training opportunities during my placement at BAT. This included a mentor scheme which put us into contact with a high level person within the company to lead us through and give us any required advice. As well as this, students were expected to deliver a conference style technical poster presentation to the whole of the Southampton sight. Numerous valuable skills were developed during this exercise as well as presentation and networking skills.

  • 8. What advice would you give to others applying to BAT
  • I would basically try to just be yourself and really try to show your interests. BAT not only looks for a technically knowledgeable individual but also an extremely well rounded person who is able to effectively work with others. Anyone applying should also try to show a real interest in the role that they are applying to and show examples of where you have applied relevant skills to the job profile in you past experiences.
